For most of my life I have lived and worked with boats here in Alaska around the Kodiak Island Archipelago. Growing up commercially fishing for salmon and herring, I started in an aluminum jitney the last year one could trap seine at 6 years old working with my parents. I was skiff man at 11 years old, and I remember running our family’s 42’ Delta home by myself at 13 years old. Eventually, I tested for my USCG captain’s license at 18, bought a 25’ charter boat, and started guiding saltwater sport fishermen. In 1999 my parents built a 36’ catamaran for their lodge, one of the first catamaran charter boats in Alaska, and hired me as captain. Since then my wife and I have purchased the lodge www.KodiakAlaskaLodge.com and operate it with our two kids.
Alaskan Aluminum Power Catamarans, LLC, is a result of years of research and the need for the ideal boat for our wilderness lodge, guests, and lifestyle. Owning, operating, and/or enjoying some of the catamarans produced by today’s fine cat builders since that first one in ’99, I have been searching for the next evolution in a catamaran hull that we could apply to our specific circumstances here on Kodiak and Raspberry Island.
I have also always been intrigued by hydrofoils. In 2015 we researched and connected with a design team that combines the hydrofoil theory with the already proven catamaran concept. The result is exactly what we were looking for. We worked closely with design to develop two new boats (our Thirty Six/Fourteen WA) for us, that we still operate here at the lodge today. They are tremendous platforms that have extended our range and dramatically increased the comfort for our guests on board, both in stability and layout.
As we move forward with your boat, know you have a team who will look at your project from three angles. Know it will be professionally designed and computer cut. Know it will be built to the standards Alaska’s commercial fishermen expect. And know my input will include actual day to day use of these boats accumulated as we use them at our remote lodge every day.
Alaskan Aluminum Power Catamarans, LLC, is the result of our search for the perfect boats for our application here on Kodiak. We are here to help you achieve the same results.
